Webhook Relay for Venafi
Updated Mar. 4 2021

The use of events to drive operations is a preferred enterprise developer design. In modern application development, Webhooks are an engineer’s favorite! Developers needing machine identities, however, don’t currently have the ability to use Webhooks with Venafi. This Venafi Indie Devs project from developer, Karolis Rusenas, founder and project lead for Webhook Relay, seeks to resolve this by creating a Webhook Relay for Venafi.
Solution Overview

The use of events to drive operations is a preferred enterprise developer design. In modern application development, Webhooks are an engineer’s favorite! Webhooks are automated messages sent from apps when something happens. They have a message—or payload—and are sent to a unique URL—essentially the app's phone number or address. Webhooks are almost always faster than polling and require less work to implement from a developer’s perspective.

Since webhooks can be deployed anywhere and are required to expose endpoints, they require machine identities. However, when it comes to machine identities, developers have not had the ability to use Webhooks with Venafi.  This important Indie Dev project aims to address this limitation for enterprise environments by implementing native support for Venafi using the GoLang VCert library.
