HP JetAdvantage Security Manager
Updated Nov. 6 2020

Certificates are vital to protecting the flow of information to and from your HP printer and multifunction devices. With Venafi, the HP JetAdvantage Security Manager can get machine identities over Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol (SCEP) for automated enrollment of Venafi policy-enforced certificates. This enables organizations to maintain a high level of crypto-agility and take advantage of the visibility, intelligence and automation capabilities that the Venafi Platform has to offer.
Business Outcomes
  • Automate provisioning of certificates to HP printers or multifunction devices

  • Gain visibility down to the user level for all certificates

  • Get a running start with existing CAs and directory import

Integration Features
  • Validated SCEP integration for issuing multiprofile and policy-enforced certificates

  • Automatically remove and replace certificates across fleets

Solution Overview

Certificates are vital to protecting the flow of information to and from your devices. But manually installing unique certificates can be an error-prone, laborious, and time-consuming task—up to 15 minutes per device. HP Security Manager efficiently and automatically installs and integrates both ID and CA certificates across your fleet of HP devices in one fell swoop, speeding up the process and reducing administrative overhead. The solution also automatically detects and renews certificates before they expire to save additional time and effort.

Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol (SCEP) is an Internet Draft in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). This protocol is used by numerous manufacturers of network equipment and software who are developing simplified means of handling certificates for large-scale implementation.

When implemented as a client by HP within Security Manager, HP can integrate with a broad range of certificate authorities, registration authorities and trust platforms whether internal or external if that protocol is enabled. The SCEP connector for Security Manager is designed to be compatible with the draft specification including vendors like Venafi that support the SCEP protocol/service.
